The already subpar Yankee’s rotation suffered a devastating blow with news that pitcher Michael Pineda is out for the 2012 season.
New York Yankees pitcher Michael Pineda will undergo surgery on Tuesday to repair a tear in his right shoulder and is lost for the season.
The Yankee’s are pointing to Pineda’s last performance on March 30th as the cause of his injury.
“He didn’t have his velocity from Day One, and we didn’t know why,” Cashman said. “This must have been responsible. Clearly, he was fighting through something.”
But Cashman was careful to absolve the Mariners of blame.
“In no way do I or the New York Yankees believe the Mariners knew about this injury,” he said. “Michael was a fully healthy player when we got him.”
With the rotation already thin, will the Yankee’s survive a late post-season run with their current line up?
